Academic English orientation programme to help you to adjust to UK university study

Do you want and need to understand how to study effectively at a UK university? We can help.

We aim to improve your language skills for academic success and to help you to get used to university-level study.

Aims of the course

  • Reading: how to read an academic journal or textbook successfully
  • Writing: how to include your own and published ideas in a well structured way, including referencing and paraphrasing skills
  • Listening: how to make effective notes in lectures and understand what you hear better
  • Speaking: how to present your ideas clearly and confidently in small group seninars and tutorials

Levels available

  • Suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate students who have reached the language level required to begin university-level studies

Course times and dates

  • Six-week course
  • Two x two-hour classes per week (4 hours per week in total)
  • Late afternoon/early evening classes to avoid clashes with university classes
  • Contact us for start dates 


Students are expected to do one hour of homework after each class
